The Yin corresponds to the black part of the Taiji with a small white dot inside. At a symbolic level, the Yin represents dark and less active part of life. According to ancient Chinese philosophical views, the Yin is tied to the idea of night, darkness and the moon. In addition, the Yin refers to feminine aspects the personality of individuals and the universe. All introversion in general is related to passivity and death. Yin is not fully represented in black, but with a white dot. Nothing is completely White or black, but at the level of categorization the facts which the world must keep in mind is that everything is a complementary to its opposite. With regard to the Yin, It would be impossible to define the night if we had not in our mind the concept of the day. Dark and negative part of human being cannot be denied or disregarded as well as white and positive aspects. According to the Chinese medicine total dominance of one over the other without the continual fluctuation between the two, is due to disease.

The Yang corresponds to the white part of the Taiji with a small black dot inside. At a symbolic level, the Yang represents the day, the activity and extraversion. In addition, the Yang symbolizes male and refers to the vital positive vital aspects in general. The principle of Yang would not give sense without that the Yin. In fact these are complementary to each other. The theory of Yin and Yang is very ancient in Chinese philosophy and is the basis of the operation and equilibrium in the universe. This beginning was in a state called Wu Chi, which literally means “absence of differentiation” no poles.

Difference Between Slang And Dialect

Slang

Words that have entered the standard vocabulary from such sources as foreign languages, dialects, and the special languages used by smaller groups within the larger society are collectively labeled “slang.” They are used in an informal, highly colloquial fashion and often carry an edge of special meaning. Some slang words become embedded in the language; others are used for a time and then fall out of fashion.

In describing the paths that words follow into and out of the standard language, linguists identify several sources. Words move into the common language from the technical shoptalk, or “jargon,” of such occupational groups as the military, government bureaucracies, musicians, athletes, religious bodies, students, and so forth; and from “cant,” nontechnical expressions that begin within any special subculture. “Argot” includes both jargon and cant and seems to be applied most often to the languages of the underworld.

Dialect

Dialect, the way a language is spoken in a particular region (for example, the “Southern dialect” of the United States). Although dialects exist in writing, and there are dialect literary works (the poetry of Robert Burns, for example), dialect is, in the main, confined to speech.

All languages have dialects, but it is important to note that the difference between a dialect and a language is relative, not absolute; arbitrary, not logical. In Italy the Tuscan dialect became Standard Italian, but there is still a wide difference between the Italian spoken in northern Italy and that spoken, for example, in Sicily. Dutch and Flemish are dialects of the same language, the differences between them arising out of the geographical, political, and even religious differences between the Netherlands and Belgium. In Spain, Castilian is Standard Spanish, but there are other important dialects and even other languages, especially Catalan, spoken by large numbers of people. And in Norway, where Danish was once the language of educated people, a standard Norwegian language is evolving from a synthesis of several Norwegian dialects.

Not even regional dialects are solely regional: the influences of class and occupation are often noticeable, especially in rural speech. And, as scholars have fully recognized only in the 20th century, even some cities possess dialects as distinct, for example, as the English dialects of Essex, Lancashire, or County Cork, or of Maine, Tennessee, or Oklahoma.

The word “dialect” has subtle differences of meaning, according to its application. For example, some scholars contend that in the phrase “the dialect of the upper classes,” dialect means something different from what it means in “the Yorkshire dialect” or “the Southern dialect of the United States.” And in the expression “the Negro dialect and the subdialects of North America,” dialect has both “class” and ethnic relevance.

Now I intend to write a bit about different whiskeys. There are some simple rules for a spirit to be able to categorize them as whiskey.

* The spirits must have been stored at least 3 years in oak barrels.

* It must hold at least one form of alcohol of about 40%

* The drums where the whiskey is stored should not be larger than 700 liters.

* The age of the whiskey should always be specified i.e.how long it has been stored in barrels

* If you mix a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old, it will be a 5-year storage.

Single Malt Whisky

The whiskey is a single malt. What distinguishes a Single Malt from the rest is the manufacturing process. It is more an artisan based industry even if we have industrialized the bit. The process is in four steps: Malting, Mashing, Fermentation and distillation. And then it is stored in oak barrels. This is an expensive procedure but the result is a tasty whiskey.

Grain Whisky

The whiskey is produced in unmalted grain in large column stills which can make large quantities at a cheap prices.

Blended Whisky

This is a mixture of Grain Whisky and various kinds of Single Malt Whisky. A cheap blended whiskey Includes tilt mostly Grain and flavored with a small part of single malt. More expensive blended whiskey contains a higher proportion of single malt. The point of a blended whiskey is that it is a cheaper production and that a Famous Grouse always tastes the same. It is the blender that is for a skilled professional who actually smells how the mixture should be for each vintage.

Vatted Malt Whisky

This place has had many different names Blended Single Malt or Pure Malt. A Vatted Malt contains a mixture of different kinds of single malt.

Bourbon Whiskey

Whiskey is the spelling of the whiskey produced in North America. It is made mainly of corn and cereals such as wheat and barley. This category is a separate science and have some own rules such as how much corn will keep the mash, etc.

Difference Between Bolsheviks And Mensheviks

The Bolsheviks and Mensheviks emerged as rival factions within the Russian Social Democratic Labor party, a Marxist organization, at its 1903 congress in Brussels and London. The division stemmed from a dispute over party membership qualifications. The party’s left wing, led by Vladimir Ilich Lenin, wanted a disciplined, centralized organization consisting only of activists. The moderates, led by L. Martov, favored a more loosely organized mass party. Lenin’s followers, who gained a short-lived ascendancy in 1903, became known as Bolsheviks (“those of the majority”), and Martov’s backers were dubbed Mensheviks (“those of the minority”).

Although the cause of the initial split seemed trivial, it reflected a basic difference of approach that became clearer as spokesmen for the two factions elaborated their views in the following years. The Mensheviks adhered to the belief of veteran revolutionary Georgy Plekhanov that a bourgeois-led, democratic revolution bringing Russia into the capitalist era would have to precede the socialist revolution. Lenin, on the other hand, argued that a revolution of workers and peasants, if properly led, could establish socialism in one stage. The two factions finally split into separate parties in 1912.

Because the Mensheviks believed in standing aside for the bourgeois revolution, they declined to seek power after Emperor Nicholas II was overthrown in March (February, O.S.) 1917, although they did accept cabinet posts in the provisional government. The Bolsheviks, however, gained control of key workers’ soviets (councils) and toppled the provisional government in November (October, O.S.) 1917. Lenin’s regime suppressed the Mensheviks shortly after the beginning of the Civil War in 1918, but they were permitted occasional spurts of political activity until the spring of 1921, when all opposition parties were abolished.

Difference between Jazz and Rock Music

The two most famous genres when it comes to music are the Jazz and the Rock music. They are equally popular though they have a lot of differences when it comes to style. Though they had similarities before, nowadays both have pronged by itself.

What is Jazz?

Jazz had been in circulation way back in the 20th century by the African-American people. It is a combination of musical influences and customs both from the Africans and the Europeans. This is supported by the use of different characteristics of musical notes like the blue and swung notes, polyrhythms and syncopation and the improvisation of the lyrics as well. Jazz, from where it started, has divided into different other genres like Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Acid Jazz and many others.

What is Rock?

On the other hand, Rock begun during the 1960s and emerged from the combination of classical, country and jazz music as well as rhythm and blues. The music generally is produced by the use of electric and bass guitars with the combination of drums and keyboards. Through the years, rock music progressed into its family of music that includes punk, metal and alternative rock.

Though rock rooted from jazz, jazz had been quiet. Jazz also uses more collection of instruments while rock focuses more on the variety of sounds produced by the stringed electric instruments with a little of drums. Some may also find jazz to be sophisticated because of its harmony while most people find rock to be wild, frenzied and noisy. Rock may also be considered to be easily performed than jazz though there are very few that may be considered as very competent rock bands.

These two musical genres, the rock and jazz, are both part of our musical culture even in the early days. Each has its own appeal and are both considered to be great music.

In summary,

Jazz has been around in the African-American people since early 20th century and has had varieties of genres.

It was in 1960 when Rock music started and it happened to be a combination of jazz with country and classical music as well.

Jazz is produced from the combination of sounds from wind and stringed instruments accompanied with little percussions while Rock is produced by stringed electrical instruments accompanied by some drum beats.

Jazz is considered to be sophisticated and stylish while Rock is considered to be wild, frenzied and noisy. Jazz is also harder to be performed compared to Rock music.

Difference Between Vampires and Goths

The Vampire and Goth are two subcultures that are steadily gaining popularity among today’s youth. Both groups substantially deviate from what is considered ordinary by the society; from their symbolisms, music, and more noticeably, their choice in fashion. Here, aside from examining their characteristics, we will also try to differentiate the two from one another.

Vampires

Members of the vampire subculture claim to believe in the symbolisms brought by modern vampire culture and practice certain rituals. As is obvious, these modern ‘vampires’ do not really possess immortality or any other unrealistic characteristics of the vampires of myth. Instead, these ‘normal’ human beings incorporate the modern adaptations of vampires into their fashion, music and even in their unique blood rituals. The vampire fashion statement, as expected, mimic those portrayed in modern vampire movies such as the Twilight saga.

Goths

Goth is a bit older compared to the vampire subculture. Goths have been running loose in the streets years before the first vampires decided they want a group identity of their own. Moreover, Goth was originally founded in England in the 80’s, although the Goth we see now is only the redefinition of the original Goth (which somehow survived) by today’s teens and young adults. Modern Goth is often characterized with an all black fashion statement. From shoes, dress or outfit, and make-up, Goths are often seen wearing all these in black.

Differentiating Between the Two

The Goth subculture was derived from an already existing style from the 80’s while vampire subculture sprung from the myth of a bloodsucking creature. Both also differ in the music and fashion they prefer: the vampires characterized by a combination of glamorous Victorian and punk outfits, while the Goths by their all black appearance, punk music and aloof personalities. Vampires, far from aloof, love attention and do not look scary at all. They do, however, sometimes engage in blood exchange rituals with their ‘coven’ or group, which the Goths would not care taking part of.

Both subcultures have roots that can be traced back many years ago, although today’s generation has made redefined them into being into modern adaptations of what they originally were. Still, they are human beings like the rest of us, however ridiculous and different they might appear, so it would be decent and civilized to respect and even appreciate them.

Important Points:

Vampires mimic modern age vampire movies while Goth is considered contemporary.

Vampires dress in a fusion of glamorous Victorian and punk while Goth maintain their generic all black outfits.

Vampires sometimes engage in blood exchange rituals while Goths don’t.

Difference Between Indie and Boho / Bohemian Look

Fashion trends are versatile, ever- changing and exciting. The great thing about fashion is that it allows a person to express their individuality and uniqueness in a statements all their won through clothes. Two if the most outstanding fashion trends to date is the Indie and Boho look. He two trends are very popular especially among girls. Sad to say, however, that these two fashion styles are often confused with one another and are often used synonymously, when in fact, they are two separate fashion trends with their own characteristics.

The Indie Look

Indie looks is inspired by the idea of individuality through handmade or pre- owned attire and accessories. The Indie fashion makes use of eclectic outfit which is both cozy and comfortable to wear. Indie style encourages the use of recycles clothes such as old shirts and floral dresses tucked away in closets which makes this style both economical and trendy.

Boho/Bohemian Look

The bohemian or boho look arrived at around the 19th century when artists immersed themselves with the gypsies, thus acquiring their sense of style that relies highly on one’s creativity and self- expression. Bohemian styles think outside the box, or rather, outside the confines of tradition. For one to pull of such a look, they need balance to come up with the appropriate Boho chic aura.

The Differences between Indie and Bohemian Styles

Though both wish to express independence form societal norms, there are subtle differences between the two trends which are as follows;

Indie Fashion is all about comfort, whereas Bohemian trends highlight the use of unique accessories which may in fact be uncomfortable for the wearer.

Indie style encourages the reuse and recycling of old clothes like shirts, flannel, and floral dresses, Bohemian fashion offers plenty of layers and ruffles that look fashionable messy and chic.

Indie fashion is open to the use of rubber shoes, Boho styles take on more feminine shoe wear like gladiator boots and sandals.

Accessories for Indie fashionistas will include almost anything, from messenger bags, homemade bracelets and necklaces, and headphones. Bohemian accessories include scarves, large shades, and equally big belts.

The difference between downbeats and upbeats

For some people songs and music are very important. We listen to music everyday yet we do not fully comprehend the basics of the muck we are listening to. For the hose who have taken an interest in music there are several components that are more difficult to understand, one being beat. Deciphering between upbeats and downbeats may seem like an easy thing to do while you are listening to the music but once you start to dissect the music you will find the upbeats and downbeats are a little more complicated than first thought. The beat of a song determines how fast or how slow the song will be and usually has nothing do with vocals or lyrics.

The downbeat refers to the first beat in a musical unit. When watching a conductor, a downbeat can be identified with a downward stroke made with the baton. The downbeat is often the primary note one which the most emphasis is placed. When counting off a beat such as 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, the downbeat is represented by the numbers 1234.

The upbeat on the other hand is the beat of a measure that is unaccented. The upbeat is usually heard right before the downbeat on the next rhythmic measure. When reading music the upbeat can be read as the last beat in the bar. When conducting, the upbeat will be represented with an upward movement of the baton. If you were to count the beats, 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, the upbeat is represented by the “and” and is found in between downbeats.

In order for a musical composition to sound right it must have both downbeats and upbeats. The upbeat however is not the accented beat in the music and always precedes the downbeat in a bar of music.

Difference Between DJ and MC

What is the difference between a DJ and an MC?

Both a DJ and an MC work at parties or get-togethers where they must perform in front of an audience. Both may be found at nightclubs, bars, and wedding receptions and they are often the person or people who are entertaining or talking to the people in the audience. Many people do not know what the difference between each role is and often when looking to book one or the other they are unsure of who to call. There are some distinct differences between a DJ and a MC.

A DJ is the abbreviated form for Disc Jockey and this is the person who is responsible for getting the music ready for an event. The DJ then plays the music to entertain the audience. A DJ may be employed in a number of different types of jobs. The most common type of DJ is found on the radio that you listen to everyday. This person is responsible for compiling the playlist of music that will be heard by listeners. Another type of DJ that is often well known about is the DJ that plays music in a bar or nightclub. These people are more elaborate in the music and type of equipment used. Club DJs often play Hip Hop music and use turntables to get the audience excited and ready to party. Some club DJs are considered Reggae DJs where they talk and rap to the audience in addition to playing music.

An MC or Master of Ceremonies is the person who is in control of the reception or event. The MC has a similar job to the DJ in that they must keep the audience entertained and to liven them up if need be. The MC is often the person with the microphone explaining the audience what is happening and is often cracking jokes and being funny. They are basically the host for the event. MCs are rare in nightclubs but when they are there they are often used as a way of controlling the audience.

MC’s rarely control or play the music. They are known more for giving speeches and introducing people such as the DJ. The DJ however does take time to talk on the microphone but is primarily in control of playing music. There are events where you will find both an MC and a DJ and each plays their own important role.

Difference between House and Techno

Does this two terms sound so unique to you? Then it means that you are not familiar with the modern clubs. They form the basic form of music entertainment. They form very good background for dancing and are also played usually by Deejays’ disc jockeys. Well this may not be familiar to you for now but, bear me witness that these type of music is very much common in the modern world, where dancing form the base of everything ranging from weddings to night out bashes.

House

It is clearly that the origin of this kind of music is directly associated to the state of Illinois in the United states back in the year 1980s. You can distinguish this type of music by its copied percussion for the bass drum and the disco music that it encompasses. This music has very nice vocals. Basically this music can be differentiated from the various EDMs by using the kick drum per beat that is produced by the drum machine.

Techno

The origin of this the Techno music is believed to be from Michigan. Techno is brought out clearly by the post-disco and electro music in it. This kind of music employs instruments such as synthesizers, sequencers, keyboards and drum machines. These are the one that are used in the Techno industry. In the current world, most disco and night club environment is saturated by this kind of music, although its fame started growing in the end of 1980s.

Distinction between House and Techno

The idea of somebody differentiating these two types of music is real very hard. The type of music that is played in most night clubs cannot be differentiated by most people to be either Techno or House. Well if you look keenly the two types of music originated from different locations, Techno is believed to have originated from Illinois while the House is taken to have come from Michigan. Both the music share some bit of instruments like the drum synthesizer and the sequencer but techno goes a step further and uses a keyboard. The idea of house is associated with the post disco music whereas in most cases the techno is mostly associated with the post disco music.

That even though these two types of music differ in some extent by their country of origin in the US, the issue of differentiating them while being played is minimal by many night club fanatics. They dance to whatever that is played, and the essence is that both are dance music.

In a Nut Shell

They both belong to the electronic dance music type.

The origin of House is Illinois whereas Techno is associated with Michigan

These two genres share the same instruments but its only Techno that use keyboards that is not employed by House
