What is the difference between difference and different?
The words “difference” and “different” mean the same thing. Difference refers to the quality of not being alike. There is also a difference in the part of speech of each word. Difference is a noun and different is an adjective.
The definition of difference that you will find in the dictionary is a way in which people or things are not the same as other people or things. An example is the difference that exists between cats and dogs. It can also mean a disagreement of some kind, such as in patching up “differences”. The answer you receive when you subtract one number from another is called the difference.
The definition of different is unlike another person or object or not alike in nature or form.
To make sure that you use the word different in a grammatically correct sentence, it must be followed by the words “than” or “from”. You either say “different than” or “different from”.
