What is the difference between DNA and RNA?

Deoxyribonucleic Acid or DNA is what carries the human genetic message in the form of segments known as genes. When looking DNA it appears to be in the form of elongated structures. Each structure is made up of twenty-three sets or pairs of chromosomes. Human DNA is made up of two structures that when straightened out would measure more than two meters. However, they are coiled so tightly inside the nucleus that they are not even visible to the naked eye. DNA itself is comprised of deoxyribose sugar and phosphate connected to a base and a sugar.

RNA is known as Ribonucleic Acid that is found in the form of one single chain unlike DNA which has two chains. The purpose of the RNA is to carry messages from the DNA. RNA is essentially produced when DNA replicates itself. Each human body contains three types of RNA. The only RNA that is transferred as genetic material is the RNA virus which could present itself as the common cold.

In summary, your DNA is your genetic makeup that has been given to you by your parents. RNA on the other hand is the messenger that delivers your genetic makeup or genes to the protein synthesis site. RNA is smaller and is only single stranded whereas DNA can be stretched to the height of a human is made up of two strands.
