Difference Between Duck and Chicken

Duck and chicken are two birds that show differences between them when it comes to their nature and characteristics. A duck is a bird that can swim while a chicken cannot. This is the main difference between a duck and a chicken.

Duck has webbed claws which are useful for swimming. A duck normally lives in water. They have oil glands that keep their feathers waterproof. They have webbed feet for swimming in the water. This is the reason why we can classify duck as aquatic bird. On the other hand a chicken is not a water bird.

A baby hen is called chicken. It has strong claws. Three of its toes are in the front and one is at the back. It is interesting to note that the claws of the chicken help the chicken in scraping the earth and this is why it is categorized into a scratching bird. Chicken can fly short distances only. They usually walk. In fact a chicken is often regarded as a domestic fowl. Its flesh is eaten as a kind of food.

A duck’s beak is broad and flat compared to a chicken’s. The beak is used to dig the mud. A chicken’s beak on the contrary is used to catch prey. Ducks build their nests on the ground. These are the important differences between the two birds, namely, duck and chicken.
