Difference Between Uniform Motion and Non Uniform Motion

The idea of movement is important in the study of physics in schools. In addition to Newton’s Laws of Motion, a student must grasp the difference between uniform motion and non-uniform motion to be able to solve mathematical problems. This article attempts to differentiate between these two types of movements to make them clearer.

We say that a moving body that travels equal distances in equal time intervals or in a state of uniform motion. Although in real life, it is difficult to find such a movement, we say that a car moving at a constant speed on a stretch of time is in a state of uniform motion. On the other hand, we say that a moving body that travels unequal distances in equal time intervals or in a state of non-uniform motion.

It is clear that being in a state of uniform and continuous motion, there will be no change in the speed of the body and there will be no acceleration, the body must have the same speed over the distance covered. On the other hand, in non-uniform motion, the rate of change objects moving several times and it also accelerates and decelerates.

There are also examples of both the non-uniform and uniform motions in a circular path. For example, the pendulum of a clock moves in a semi-circle at varying speeds as the highest point, the speed becomes zero while it is maximum at the bottom most point.
