Difference Between Ice And Water

Water, is identified for its characteristics and state with the formulation H2O, is one of the most common elements on earth, with up to 75% of the earth’s surface covered with it. This is a very basic requirement for life to exist, and has practical applications for almost every area one can think of.

A water molecule is formed when two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom is covalently bonded to each other. Water in its natural state, is available as a liquid. Hydrogen atoms of water molecules are not that close and hence hydrogen bonds between molecules are constantly forming and breaking. This allows the water to exist in a liquid state because of the lack of a bonded structure. In liquid form, a water molecule on average contains 3.4 hydrogen bonds for molecules adjacent waters at any time. The density of liquid water is 1.00 g / cubic cm.

However, ice is the solid form of water. Ice is a rigid lattice structure of the tetrahedral angle crystalline form that resembles a giant molecular structure. This makes it repulsive character-like contributions to overcome the forces of attraction in the building, which is to show the unusual property of being less dense when cooled where the not so popular theory says that lowering the temperature to about the matter. The density of ice is 0.931 g / cubic cm. That is why ice floats on water. In ice, each water molecule of hydrogen bonds around four other water molecules.
