Difference Between Insemination And Fertilization
The insemination is a medical technique of fertilization. It is done by unnatural methods. So it is more precisely called artificial insemination or intrauterine insemination. It involves the insertion of sperm inside genital of women. This technique is commonly used in infertile couples. For example in case of male infertility or reduced sperm viability and is often associated with pharmacological stimulation to induce follicular maturation. Usually a woman decides to adopt intrauterine insemination when he cannot get pregnant for the duration of at least a year. The outcome of insemination can be influenced by many factors. The age of the patient, duration of infertility, the morphology and motility seminal fluid, endometrial thickness and the exact timing of intrauterine insemination must be taken into account. Ultrasound monitoring of ovulation through repeated trans-vaginal ultrasound is used to determine the best time for insemination.
The fertilization is a phenomenon concerning the sexual reproduction. The process of fertilization involves the union of two gametes of different sex. The result of fertilization is a new cell called zygote from which develops the new individual. The fertilization can be of two types: one is external which occurs only in aqueous environment. It is characteristic of aquatic organisms including fish. In this case the water is the medium that enables male gametes to fertilize the female. It requires a high production gamete. Internal fertilization is the introduction of male gametes directly to women with greater chances of fertilization and poor energy expenditure. There is another particular type of fertilization: the indirect internal fertilization which is very common in crustaceans, amphibians and cephalopods.
The human fertilization is done internally. Both gametes oocyte (Female) and spermatozoon (Male) reach maturity. They differ from all other cells in the human body because they contain only the half of the chromosomes (23 instead of 46). After ejaculation usually one sperm from the seminal fluid penetrates into the egg to fertilize. From the fusion of two gametes a complete new individual is born.
