Difference Between Islam And  Sikhism

Being two of the religions that are followed by people all over the world, Islam and Sikhism are quite different from one another.

The holy book of Islam is the Holy Quran and in case of Sikhism it is the Granth Sahib. According to Islam angel Gabriel was the intermediary of God and it was him who revealed the Quran to Mohammed. On the other hand it was the 10 gurus who compiled the Granth Sahib which contains Sufi and Hindu passages.

There are five pillars in Islam, which are the duties that a believer has to do in life, which are Hajj pilgrimage, Salat, Zakat, Sahada, and Sawm. There are three pillars in Sikhism which are Vachakko Naam Japna, and Kirat koro.

Another difference is that Sikhism follows the 5 K’s. The 5 K’s are Kirpan (long sharp sword), Kacha (clean white shorts),Kesh (uncut clean hair), Kara (steel/iron bracelet) and Kangha (wooden comb).

The Islamic teachers are called Rasools or Nabis. On the other hand the teachers in Sikhism are regarded as Gurus.

Unlike the Islamic belief where it is mandatory for the followers to go Hajj Pilgrimage, in case of Sikhism there is no such belief of pilgrimage.

People who follow Islam circumcise unlike the Sikh followers who never circumcise.

The funeral process is different as well. While the Islamic people are buried, the Sikhs are cremated.

Amritsar is a sacred place for the Sikhs, whereas Mecca is a sacred place for the Islamic people. Eid is a propitious day in Islam and Gurpurabs are auspicious days in Sikhism.
