Difference Between Language and Literature

Language and Literature are two words that seem similar in meaning, but strictly speaking they are not. Language is the basic unit of literature. In other words we can say that language is the building block of literature
Literature of a particular language is produced by creating articles or works by authors of that language

On the other hand, language is a mode of expression of thought by means of enunciating sounds. This is the main difference between language and literature. There may be as much literature as there are languages.

A language consists of sounds, words and sentences. The way in which the words combine to form sentences is important in any language. Literature, on the other hand, is composed of the thoughts expressed in any language.

Thus we can say that literature has many forms. We call each of these forms a literary form. Different literary forms are poetry, prose, drama, epic, free verse, the tale, the novel and other such literary forms. Each of these literary forms are made up of the language in which it is written. In short we can say that literature is built entirely by the language in which it is written.

Language is the method of expression, while the literature is the collection of such expressions in said forms or forms mentioned above. We can say that any literature is rich or poor according to the accuracy of the particular language in which literature is created. For example a piece of poetry created with thoughtful expressions in English improves the quality of English Literature by leaps and bounds.

Experts in any given language produce high-quality literature in this particular language. It is said that language experts are well versed in grammar and prosody of the particular language.
