Difference between LCD and LED Monitors
There was a time when the only TV and computer monitors were cathode ray tubes. However, since display and quality is important when we stare at the screens, different kinds of monitors such as LCD, LED, and Plasma have started to come out. Many people are confused about the difference between LCD’s and LED’s. This article is meant to help them learn their differences and respective features.
What is an LCD monitor?
An LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display, is made up of two layers of glass that are joined together by liquid crystals. These crystals, although they do not produce any light, help pass or block light from fluorescent lamps (CCFL) located at the back of the screen.
What is an LED monitor?
LED is pretty much the same as LCD except that it uses Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s) instead of CCFL.
There are 3 major types of LED backlighting: RGB dynamic, Edge, and Full Array. The quality of the display is very much affected by these lightings, so you should inquire about them before buying your next monitor.
LED’s are environmentally friendly since mercury is not used in their production. They also consume 30% less power than LCD’s. They are 20% more expensive than LCD’s but this is because they have a longer lifespan and better contrast ratios. Lastly, they cause less stress on the eyes.
