Difference Between LLB and JD

 

LLB and JD are two degrees that are awarded to students in different colleges and universities around the world. However, they are both very different from each other. Both degrees are very popular and there are many differences between them.

JD Degree:

JD degree is actually Juris Doctor. It is a legal degree. This particular law course is very popular in the United States of America and Canada. In many other countries in the world, JD is not very popular. Students should have the JD degree to receive admission to LLM or the Masters in law. The same is also the case with LLB.

A student requires three years to complete the JD degree from the United States of America and Canada. Americans have a belief that JD is the basic qualification that any lawyer is supposed to have before he starts with work. Most Americans believe that JD is the basic qualification that any lawyer must have to start with. Then the lawyer can seek for specialization in any particular subject of his choice.

It is important to know that students studying to receive the JD degree are not required to submit                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       their thesis before the completion of the course. It is not mandatory even in the United States of America and Canada. In the year 1997, the JD course was introduced in other universities around the world. There are some universities in countries such as Australia, which offer LLB degree as an undergraduate program and a JD program as a postgraduate degree.
