Difference between Mass and Weight

Mass and weight are used interchangeably without realizing the difference between them. Mass is the matter contained in a body while weight is the gravitational force exerted on a mass.

Mass will remain constant everywhere while weight will change according to the change in gravitational force. For example the gravitational force on moon in .1655 times less than the gravitational force of the earth and this is why our weight will be far less on moon than what it is on the earth although your mass will remain same. Similarly gravitational force on Sun is 27.9 times more than earth so if your weight will be measured on Sun then it will be too higher than your weight on earth.

Weight is measured by the formula w=mg where g is the gravitational constant and its vale is 9.8226 m/s2 and m is the mass.
