Difference Between Tonsilitis Vs. Strep Throat

Tonsillitis refers to infection of the tonsils, which often leads to sore throat accompanied by severe pain and fever. However, strep throat is a class of streptococcal infection falling in Group ‘A’ and has its effects on the pharynx, larynx and tonsils glands.

In tonsillitis the tonsils become infected with viral or bacterial infection. Such problems start with a swelling of the tonsils causing great pain and turmoil. As soon as certain bacteria and viruses enter the body through the nose or mouth, tonsils are the first biological filter they pass through. The filtering process often starts in the white blood cells resulting in the following symptoms if an infection is detected.

Symptoms for tonsilitis

Sore throat with ears paining

Severe pain during swallowing

Cough

Headache

Muscle aching or muscle pain

Inflammation of the throat and cheeks

Fever

Chills

Streptococcus Pyro gene is the bacteria that causes strep throat creating wounds and scratchy feeling in the throat. Strep throat can be the outcome of little sore throat if not given proper attention. Often deteriorated condition in strep throat can lead to other serious conditions such as rheumatic fever and nephritis. There are a lot of common symptoms between strep throat and tonsillitis, but few are visible signs that help identify conditions. Some of them are as follows,

Tender cervical lymphadenopathy

Rash

Hives

Weakness, general malaise, feeling ill or uneasy

Halitosis

Stomach pain, nausea and vomiting

Tonsillitis Basically there are three main types

Acute tonsillitis

Sub acute tonsillitis

Chronis tonsillitis

Strep throat, however, has no such kinds of varieties or species

  3.  Tonsillitis results in swollen tonsils, tender cervical lymph nodes and throat strep throat leads to cervical lymphadenopathy and abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.
