Difference Between SS and Gestapo

SS and the Gestapo are police groups of Nazi Germany under the sole autocratic rule of Adolf Hitler. They follow the teaching and the Government of the Nazi party and were responsible for numerous violations of human rights during the Second World War.

Gestapo

The Gestapo is short form of German term GEheime STAatsPOlizei meaning that refers to secret police in English. The organization was founded on April 20, 1934 to 1939 under the leadership of Nazi commander Heinrich Himmler. Their offensive power comes from a law called Schutzhaft or ‘preventive detention’. The law allows police officers to take anyone into custody and put someone inside the prison cell without the need for any judicial process.

SS

The SS is short form for Schutzstaffel term which means “protection squad” it was under the oppressive leadership of Heinrich Himmler from 1929 to 1945 during World War II. They have been associated with lot of crimes, violations of humanity and other wicked acts. The sole purpose of SS is supposedly to protect the top leader Nazi Hitler.

The difference between SS and the Gestapo

The Gestapo is an organization of the police that existed only around 1934-1939 while the SS exited longer for about sixteen years between 1929 and 1945, before being abolished.

The founding date of the original Gestapo is April 1933 while that of the SS is in 1923. It was in the last few years before it was abolished, they started to abuse their position and power.

The first commander and police chief of Gestapo was Hermann Goring who was a veteran of WWI while Emil Maurice, who was the friend of Hitler, was the first commander of SS

The Nazis and their allies have been estimated for the numerous deaths, murders, massacres and other crimes during the Second World War under the leadership of Dictator Adolph Hitler. The most unforgettable crime committed by Nazis and was part of world history is the Holocaust that killed more than 6 million Jews.
