Difference Between Afghanistan And Iraq War

The US Government led war in both Iraq and Afghanistan has been going for quite a few years. And both these defense operation face a lot of global protests.

As far as the war in Afghanistan is concerned- it was regarded as a war against terrorism and the one in Iraq was against the rule of Saddam-which was a global threat with the Weapons of Mass Destruction.

The operation in Afghanistan was named Operation Enduring Freedom and the war in Iraq was named Operation Iraqi freedom. While the war in Afghanistan was against the terrorist force,Taliban group, the war in Iraq was against Saddam Hussein.

The war in Afghanistan started in 2001 and the countries like UK and other supporters supported US to invade the country to stamp out the Taliban group.

Iraq was at the bad books of US after Saddam Hussein lost the US favor. In 2002

The Afghanistan war was launched in 2001 with the United States having the support of United Kingdom and other allies invaded the country to oust the Taliban regime. In 2002 the president was empowered by the US state Congress to apply to disarm Iraq if it was necessary.  However due to the fact that Russia, France and China opposed the UNSC decision to apply force against Iraq; the US could not get support from the UN. However the US managed to get together a group who was willing to share the same idea as the US and proceeded to launch the war against Iraq which actually happened in 2003.

As far as the military troops applied in both the wars are concerned, more troops were used in the war in Afghanistan than that of the Iraq war. More troops are being sent to Afghanistan unlike in Iraq where troops are being withdrawn.

Cost wise the Afghanistan war did cost a lot more than the war in Iraq.
