Difference Between Antigens and Antibodies

Antigens are the organic substances that form antibodies which are responsible for immediate response immunity. Antibodies are also known as immunoglobulin, are containers for gamma-globulin protein found in various body fluids and blood flows. Antibodies generally use the immune system to recognize and fight foreign elements that may damage the system, such as viruses or bacteria.

The antigens are composed of polysaccharides and proteins. This may include items such as cell walls, capsules, toxins or viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms. However, antibodies from the organic structure of the device, including a pair of large heavy chains and two light chains. Antibodies get developed from cells in the blood plasma.

The purpose served by the antibodies is to force the body to get all the foreign materials in an inactive state. Antigens are just formed to increase the awareness of the body and makes it to take immediate immune response. So the basic difference between antigens and antibodies are that the introduction of the first leads to the production of the latter, both of these are involved in inhibiting the biological processes. Antibodies are special proteins produced specifically to combat some particular antigens.

Antibodies are Y-shaped with a difference in the highest branch. This is due to structural differences in the amino acids of antibodies that help the accuracy of recognition of antigen. On the other hand, the surface of antigen acts as a binding site. When combined with the Y branch of antigen-antibody is destroyed

Summary :.

  1. Antigen is an organic material that begins with the formation of antibodies, the antibodies of the immune system recognize and fight foreign elements.
  2.  There are five major types of antibodies and there are three main types of antigens.

3.   Antigens are composed of polysaccharides and proteins. Antibodies are the organic units.
