The difference between Apple GSM iPhone 4 and CDMA iPhone 4

The world is very familiar with the Apple name in technology. It was the first company to introduce the smart phone, which it called the iPhone 3. This was followed by the iPhone 3GS and then by the iPhone 4. All of these devices use the Apple operating system, which at first was iOS2. After a series of upgrades, the current version is iOS 4.2.1.

The world was waiting for an iPhone 5, but Apple surprised everyone with its announcement that it was teaming up with Verizon in the US to release the CDMA iPhone 4.

GSM iPhone 4

Apple is still the world leader in the smart phone sales and the GSM iPhone 4 lived up to everyone’s expectations when it was released. The 3.5 inch Retina display with its extremely clear screen shows up brilliantly against the stainless steel frame. It is very attractive and being the first of its kind to integrate Skype Mobile, subscribers found it very convenient.

The features of the GSM iPhone 4 are:

  • 3.5 inch backlit LED Liquid Crystal Display
  • 960 x 640 pixel resolution
  • 512 MB eDRAM
  • 5 megapixel rear camera with illuminated sensor
  • 5 times digital zoom
  • O.3 megapixel front camera
  • 32 GB flash memory
  • Wi-Fi
  • Blue Tooth
  • Global positioning system integrated with Google maps
  • Access to the Apple iStore

This is the first iPhone that supports the 3G network and is associated with AT&T for the US market.

CDMA iPhone 4

In terms of the features, there is no difference between the GSM iPhone 4 and the CDMA iPhone 4. There is a difference in the network support that Apple provides for this phone. It uses CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz). This is because of the collaboration between Apple and Verizon and this support is needed for the 93 million subscribers that are Verizon customers. However, it can also be used with other CDMA networks and is not just for the use of Verizon.

The CDMA iPhone 4 also has a mobile hotspot that is not available in the GSM model. The wireless feature can connect up to five devices that are enabled for wireless connections.

Summary

  1. Apple iPhone 4 uses the Apple operating system, but the CDMA iPhone 4 uses CDMA network to provide support for the Verizon customers.
  2. Both phones have the same features.
  3. The CDMA iPhone has wireless connectivity for up to 5 devices.

Both models support hearing aids. The CDMA iPhone 4 went on sale by Verizon in February, 2011, but existing customers had the option of pre-ordering on February 3.
