A look at the difference between the blackberry and the mulberry

Blackberries and mulberries look so much alike that many people often confuse them. They are two completely different berries and although they are similar in some ways, they do have differences.

Blackberry

The blackberry is a perennial plant that comes back year after year and is native to South America. It belongs to the Rosaceae family of plants and is one of a thousand species of berries in the Robus genus. The berries grow on vines that are close to the ground and have thorns. They are black or dark purple when they are ripe, which is why they are sometimes confused with the mulberry.

Blackberries are round and they are very rich in nutrients. There are few calories in these fruits and no fats at all.

Mulberry

The mulberry is dark purple when it is fully ripe. It belongs to the Moraceae family or plants and comes under the Morus genus. This berry is native to Europe and parts of Africa and Asia. The berries grow on a tree that doesn’t have any thorns. They are oval shaped and the juice can stain your mouth when you eat them. If you happen to get some of this juice on your clothing it can be very hard to remove the stain.

The similarities in blackberries and mulberries

Both blackberries and mulberries are very nutritious. They are rich in antioxidants as well as magnesium, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and potassium. They are both low in calories and do not contain fats.
