What is the difference between a Condenser Tumble Dryer and a Vented Tumble Dryer

A tumble dryer is essential in any home for drying clothes when the weather is not suitable to hang them outdoors to dry. There are two varieties of these dryers to choose from – condensed tumble dryer and vented tumble dryer. When you are in the market for a new dryer, it is better to understand the difference between the two because they have different features and operate in different ways. It is clear that a vented dryer needs a vent to the outside.

A vented tumble dryer has to be placed on an outside wall because you need to have a vent from the dryer to the outside. If this is not possible, you can purchase a condensed tumble dryer because there is no need for an outside vent.

The differences between the two types of dryers

Vented dryers have a pipe through the hot damp air flows from the dryer and goes to the outside of the house. In a condenser type dryer, there is a condensing unit inside the dryer that cools the heat coming from the dryer and turns the steam into water. There is a plastic tank that collects this water that is an integral part of the appliance. In the more modern versions, there is no need to empty this tank when it is full because there is an automatic pump to drain the tank.

Pros and cons of the two types of dryers

  1. Ventilated tumble dryers are not as expensive, but if the vent is not installed properly it can cause problems with condensation in the house.
  2. Condenser tumble dryers are more expensive, but much easier to install because there is no need for a vent. However, depending on the dryer that you have you may have to empty the tank of water on a regular basis.
  3. Consider the choices you have in your home for the location of the dryer before you make your purchase.
