Difference Between Gram Positive and Gram Negative Bacteria

The Positive and the Negative Gram bacteria are two unique kinds of bacteria and their distinctive properties can easily be verified thoroughly in established medical laboratories. These bacteria have their own characteristics in terms of their uses and their effects. Both the Gram Positive and Gram Negative bacteria have their own individual types of cell walls and since their names connote they are in fact two separate entities. They should however never be considered to be identical in any manner since they inherently have their own exclusive features as well.

Taking a broad perspective about the uses and their after effects of these two kinds of bacteria, the major properties of the Gram Positive bacteria are closely observed on the foundation of their membrane, the individualistic cell wall that is absolutely of a unique type and the existence of this kind of bacteria in Cytosol. The Gram Positive bacteria usually are observed to be having dark tinges such as they are often seen in dark purple and dark blue shades when they go through the process of straining. This kind of bacteria is relatively less complex in nature and the formation of its protein proves to be useful in affording a potential defense mechanism against myriad types of infections.

The medical scientists have carried out extensive researches on this bacterium and have offered resolutions to some of the tribulations produced by this bacterium. Since it is a bacterium, it certainly has a certain number of side effects. Further, there are certain defects that come up by the cell walls of the bacteria to which solutions to remedy have also been presented. The cell wall is one of the main components of the Gram Positive bacteria that provides a protection to the bacteria and facilitates intermingling with the surroundings and this is one property of the bacteria that sets it apart from the other various types of bacteria. During the last few years that research has been conducted on the bacteria on the utility of the cell wall of the Gram Positive bacteria, it is generally used to preserve the food stuffs for longer periods and maintain their freshness.

The membrane of the Gram Negative bacteria and the protein pathway are its main components which go through specific interactions, since it does not have any cell wall as its counterpart the Gram Positive bacteria. The major reason for the bacteria being known as a Negative bacterium is due to their nature of holding their original color as a result of the straining process as there is no perceptible change. The hues of the bacteria change to a reddish or pinkish tone of color while undergoing the process of straining. However, in case it worsens, there is a possibility that this bacterium might prove to be dangerous to patients infected with this bacterium.

In today’s scenario, there are antibodies that offer a unique protection against the side effects of this bacterium. The presence of this bacterium in a patient causes frightful diseases such as infections in the bloodstream, passing of urine and pneumonia. The affects of the Gram Negative bacteria are disastrous since once they make their way in to the blood stream, they tend to destroy the body tissues at an alarming pace and at this stage, the life of the person is endangered even though there are antibodies present for protection. Yet it is impractical to clear up the entire infected blood from the human body. As a result of this infection, a patient may pass off into a condition of weakness, dehydrations, cold; stomach upsets and could also fall into an acute depressed state of mind.

There are vast differences between both the gram positive bacteria and the gram negative bacteria even though the peptidoglycan is present in both these bacteria, yet there is a difference in the location and width in both the cases. The chief variation lies in the cell walls of the two bacteria, Gram Positive and Gram negative. The cell wall of Gram Positive bacteria is a fat protection whereas the Gram Negative bacterium has an internal layer of membrane. There is however no outer membrane in the Gram Positive bacteria while the Gram Positive bacteria has a membrane. The cell wall of the Gram Positive bacteria is more robust as compared to the Gram Negative bacteria.

The gap of the periplasm is absent in the Gram Positive bacteria. Similarly, the quality of the toxins and the flagella as well as the fighting power also differs in both the bacteria. One of the often debated variations is the dissimilarity relating to these bacteria is their shades after the process of straining. While the Gram Positive bacteria displays the dark tones of purple, the Gram Negative exhibits the changes in its tinges showing reddish shades in them.

Another discussed difference is the dissimilarity between their shades, after the process of straining the first one show the dark shades of purple, while the second one shows the change in shades; it illustrates reddish shades in it.
