Difference between Klonopin and Ativan

The Klonopin and Ativian are classified medications are normally used to treat seizures and panic or anxiety disorders. It is only under the expert advice of a physician that these drugs can be administered, based on the prescription and only after the patient has been diagnosed with any of the disorders cited above.

The Klonopin is also termed as Clonazepem is generally prescribed to patients who suffer from seizures as well as panic disorders. The composition of the Klonopin is made up of anticonvulsant a characteristic which is one of the reasons that it is used both as a psychiatric drug as well as for the treatment of seizures. The effects of the Klonopin are also the main reason that it has become rather an abused matter. The main target of the Klonopin is the central nervous system in the human body that affects the perception, mood and the behavior of the patient. Ativian is a Benodiazepine type of a drug and is known as Lorazepan or Ativian, which is more popular than the other type of medication. The administration of the Ativian drug requires much more close observance of the patient once it is give since it brings upon the patient the severest withdrawal effects in case it is used for a longer period of time. The Ativian operates by making a particular neurotransmitter in the brain as a target which results in the reduction of the mental excitement and it is for this reason that it is used for the curing of anxiety and panic disorders.

There are however variations between both these drugs in terms of the working of these drugs on the patient. The Klonopin affects the mood and the behavior of the patient through the central nervous system while Ativian acts by reducing the mental stimulation through the Gamma-aminobutyric acid. Ativian is liable to cause severe withdrawal symptoms after its usage for even a month, while Klonopin does not bring any withdrawal symptoms in the patient.

As mentioned earlier, the administration of Klonopin and Ativian should be done only when it is advised by the physician through a proper prescription. In case the symptoms of the patient persist, it should be brought to the immediate notice of the Doctor without any delay so that any untoward reactions in the patient may be checked appropriately. Klonopin is advised especially for seizure disorders while Ativian is prescribed to patients suffering from severe anxiety and panic disorders. The dosage of the Ativian is administered three to four times daily in order for its effect to take place while Klonopin is required to taken two to three times per day prior to the realization of its effects. Since both these drugs are addictive in nature, there is all the more reason that the physicians should closely monitor the situation in their patients.
