Difference between A Laptop And A Notebook

A laptop and a notebook, which are both kinds of portable computers, are terms that are often used interchangeably. These computers, although similar in some aspects, have their own differences in function and size.

What is a Laptop?

The laptop was originally designed as a computer small enough to keep in your lap and be carried anywhere. It had almost all of the functions of a desktop computer, including a large keyboard. Some laptops even have built-in disk drive units and CD/DVD ROM drives.

What is a Notebook?

The notebook, on the other hand, was originally designed as a planner rather than as a smaller version of the desktop computer. It was designed to be smaller than a laptop, with limited functions and a small keyboard. It also didn’t have any internal drives; instead, it had slots that could connect to external ones. It was very light and thin, often the size of an A4 notebook.  Later on, however, the notebook was incorporated with additional functions such as the integrated modem and network connection.

With the evolvement of the notebook, the two terms can now be used interchangeably depending on what their manufacturers call them.
