Difference Between Ooty and Kodaikanal and Munnar

Ooty, Kodaikanal and Munnar are the names of popular hill resorts in South India. They show some differences amongst themselves in terms of accommodation, places to see and climate.

Ooty is the short name for the word Ootacamund in the Nilgiris district in the Indian state of Tamilnadu. Kodaikanal is located in the Dindigul district of the state of Tamilnadu as Munnar is found in Western Ghats in Idukki district in Kerala.

Ooty is known for growing popular Nilgiri tea leaves inlaid in states across the city. Kodaikanal is known for its waterfalls and so is a popular tourist destination now. It is believed that there are at least 50 hotels in the city that are in favor of the budgets of different classes of people.

On the other hand Munnar is a hill resort famous for its places that are important tourist spots. These include places like Eravikulam National Park, Mattupetty, the Anaimudi Peak, Pallivasal, Anayirangal, Chinnakanal and the Museum of Tea.

Ooty is home to several tourist spots like the Botanical Garden, the Fern Hills Palace, Toda hut and Ooty Lake  to mention a few. Ooty is known for its golf courses as well. Kodaikanal Lake, Bryant Park, Coaker’s Walk, Gate and Shola Falls View of Green Valley are some of the places of tourist interest in Kodaikanal.

Summers are mild and winters are very cold in Ooty and Kodaikanal. Temperatures vary between 10 centigrade and 0 degrees Celsius in winters in the hill station of Munnar.

Ooty is known for adventure sports as well. You can reach Ooty by land, rail and air as well. The nearest airport to Ooty is located in Coimbatore. Railway Nilgiri Mountain is a mountain railway and is the oldest of its kind in India. The railway stations that are near to Kodaikanal are Kodai Road and Palani. The important station located near Munnar is the Ernakulam Railway Station.

Munnar is especially known for its flora and fauna. On the other hand Ooty and Kodaikanal are well known for their beautiful surroundings and states all around.
