Difference Between Quad Core Nvidia KAL EL Tegra 3 and Nvidia Tegra 2
Tegra ™ 2 is System-on-Chip (SoC), which has been developed by Nvidia for mobile devices like smart phones, PDAs and mobile Internet devices. Nvidia claims that Tegra 2 is the first CPU-based and mobile dual-core and possesses great multitasking capabilities. Nvidia Kal-El (Tegra 3) is the first quad-core SoC. Nvidia announced in February 2011 at Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona and is intended to be released in the second half of 2011.
Nvidia Tegra 2
As mentioned above, it is developed by Nvidia for mobile devices like smart phones, PDAs and mobile Internet devices. According to Nvidia, Tegra 2 is the first entity of mobile dual-core CPU which has huge multitasking capacity. The quad core Nvidia Kal-El (Tegra 3)
As stated before, Kal-El (Tegra 3) is the newest of quad core SoC which is developed by Nvidia, which is expected to be released in the second half of 2011. Tegra T30 3 is for tablets, while Tegra 3 AP30 is targeted for the phones. Nvidia claims that contain Tegra 3 T30 has four 1.5GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores and it offers support to Blu-ray video. They also claim that it is able to drive 1920 x 1200 panels with graphic display three times faster and with Hyper Low Power (ULP) mode, where classic Tegra3 tablet will be able to run 12 hours of playback HD video. Tegra 3 AP30, which targets mobile, is capable of driving displays of 1366 x 768 resolutions. As noted by Engadget, Nvidia showed a device containing the Tegra3 ranging down a 2560 x 1440 video stream to its native resolution of 1366 x 768, while giving out the similar stream at 2560 x 1600 on a 30”screen at the same time.
What is the difference between Quad core Nvidia Kal-El (Tegra 3) and Nvidia Tegra 2?
The main difference between Tegra 3 and Tegra 2 is the number of cores they have. Tegra 2 is a dual-core SoC while Tegra 3 SoC is a a quad-core SoC. Nvidia claims that Tegra 3 wins over Tegra 2 by doubling the processing power and it has triple processing power for graphics. In addition, Nvidia showed an example of great medieval battles, operating at 720p with 650 enemies in both of them. While Tegra 2 stuttered during this demonstration, Tegra 3 performed very well. Also, in a performance test using Coremark 1.0 as reference point, Tegra 3 scored double of the Tegra 2.
