Difference Between Telescope and Microscope
In the field of science and technology, there are several instruments that assist in the work that has to be carried out in the particular field. Telescope and Microscope are the two most important scientific instruments that are often confused to be one and the same by many people because both these are kind of magnifying instruments used to view distant or invisible objects.
Telescope is and instrument that is used to bring near the objects that are far while microscope is an instrument that is used to view objects that are not visible to the naked eye. However, the main aim of both the instruments is to view the minute details of the objects under observation, be it far or near. If the scientific dimensions and other aspects of the instruments are considered, the focal lengths of the lenses used in the two instruments also differ, thus enabling the objects present at drastically different distances visible to the naked eye. In short the reason that far off objects are visible through the telescope and the minutest objects are visible through the microscope is due to the selected focal lengths of the lenses used in the two instruments as a result of which the objects to be observed come to view at the focal points of the lenses.
Another difference between the two instruments is the difference in the diameters and aperture of the lenses used in the two instruments. The diameter and the aperture size is more in case of the telescope and less in the case of microscope so as to enable the telescope to use the lesser amount of natural light and the microscope to use the artificial light for the purpose of viewing the object. Even the curvature of the lenses used in the two instruments is different from each other. These dimensions are so, so that the focal point gets the adequate amount of illumination for viewing the objects.
The objects that can be viewed under the microscope are, size and shape of unicellular organisms and sub-cellular components, chromosomes etc. The objects that can be viewed from the telescope are, celestial bodies, stars etc. This is possible due to the difference in the magnification factor and ability of the two instruments.
