Difference Between Telstra 4G LTE FD LTE and Vivid Wireless 4G LTE TD LTE in Australia

The two flavors of LTE that will be used in 4G network by Telstra and VividWireless in Australia are Telstra LTE (FD-LTE) and Vividwireless LTE (TD-LTE). Telstra will use its existing 2G spectrum (1800 MHz) to deploy LTE 4G network technology with FD-LTE, the initial CBDS in major cities. Vividwireless is a very new company which has entered the telecom industry only in 2010 with the launch of 4G broadband wireless in Perth in March 2010. VividWireless is aiming expansion of its network to central CBDS in major cities. Vividwireless holds a license for 70 MHz and 100 MHz to 2.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum in each Australian capital city except Hobart and Darwin. It currently uses the 2.3 GHz spectrum for WiMAX network in Perth and provides service through the Huawei USB modem.  The company planned to upgrade its network using WiMax technology TD-LTE, where TD is the time division multiplex. Company will team up with Huawei in the network deployment. Vividwireless boasts of achieving download speeds between 40 Mbps to 70Mbps and upload speed of   to 7 Mbps with its TD-LTE network.

Telco giant Telstra in Australia announced they plan to launch 4G LTE Network later this year. In the Mobile World Conference 2011held in Barcelona, CEO of Telstra, David Thodey revealed Telstra’s plans to upgrade its existing Next G (3G Network) network with the long-term (LTE) technology. It will reallocate its 1800 MHz 2G spectrum for 4G LTE network, because over 80% of its clients are now on the 3G network. It will use standard LTE technology (long term evolution) in 4G technology in the network which is also known as FD-LTE, FD is the frequency division multiplex. Telstra will use Ericsson equipment for the advanced network. Telstra expects to get a minimum speed of 21Mbps for download.
