Difference Between Wish and Desire

Wish and desire are two words which appear to be quite similar but they are slightly different from each other.

Wish is a word which is used to express a feeling of doing something which you cannot do at a particular point of time. It is also about the feeling of wanting to be in a particular situation or possessing something. Desire is wishing of something which is unfulfilled in life. It shows longing or craving for something. According to Buddhism, desires are root of all the evil in this world.

We use ‘for’ and ‘that’ after using the word wish although use of that is optional. For example, I wish I could go to the dance class or I wish that  I was with my parents or I wish I was with my parents.

Thus, these are two different words and should not be used interchangeably.
