Difference Between Yaz and Yasmin
Both known in market as fourth generation birth control pills for women, Yaz and Yasmin are derived of same pharmaceutical compounds. If you are one of the users, it is very important to know the differences between these two oral contraceptives. The packing of Yaz consists of 24 pink tablets along with four white tablets whereas the pack of Yasmin contains seven white tablets with 21 yellow tablets. White tables are inactive or neutral pills called placebos. The dosage of these medicines is prescribed in combination of yellow and white pills. This helps in reduction of uncomfortable symptoms during the cycles.
Both Yaz and Yasmin contain estradiol and drospirenone, but Yasmin has more quantity of estradiol than the previous. The quantity of estradiol is 30 mg and 20 mg in Yasmin and Yaz respectively. Estradiol is a sexual functioning hormone and can be found in female ovaries. It is present in males as well but in restricted amount. The other constituent, drospirenone is a type of progesterone and works against male hormones such as testosterone. The amount of drospirenone is the cause of difference between these two contraceptives along with the recommended dosage.
Mainly the work and function of both pills is same. These stop ovulation, alter the cervical mucus and uterus lining which result in prevention of pregnancy. Yasmin is provided for 21 days or three weeks with the combination of 7 placebos whereas Yaz is prescribed for 24 days on daily basis. Yaz is also prescribed by physicians to ease premenstrual dysphoric disorder in women.
Yaz is also prescribed to females whose cycles have just begun and are suffering from acne Yasmin is not prescribed for acne. These two medicines do come with their own baggage of side effects. Yaz has more severe side effects whereas Yasmin is said to be an underlying cause of gall bladder ailments and blood clots in the legs.
