Difference Between Robbery and Burglary

Burglary and robbery are both crimes that can be connected with stealing and it is even considered as crime. They appear just the same, but they are radically different from each other if you look closely.

Robbery

Robbery is often known as someone taking valuables from others by using intimidation or force. That’s why there are words such as armed robbery and highway robbery because, characteristically, robbery involves the use of a firearm or any instrument of intimidation. Although there is a degree in robbery as it involves the use of lethal weapons. In a crime to be considered theft, the presence of the victim is required.

Burglary

The burglary is usually defined as the kind of crime that when someone breaks and enters a property without the owner’s consent, and it is to commit a crime of any kind. In the burglary, taking away valuable items is not the intention always. More serious intentions like murder or rape can be involved, and theft is not always involved in the burglary.

The difference between burglary and Robbery

Robbery is committed with intention of theft or taking valuables with force whereas burglary does not always involves theft, the crime to be committed could be otherwise. Theft is a crime that typically uses threats or worse, the use of lethal weapons to accomplish the goal, burglary, when committed, does not always has the element of hullabaloo. Burglary can be as simple as walking in a property without authorization or by breaking the lock. While the robbery is always equivalent to any degree of violence, burglary can be committed without using violence.

All these are some of the main factors that separate theft and burglary from each other. They are both crimes and are characteristically associated with stealing and theft, but certain factors or events canl change the description of a crime.
