How cabbage and lettuce differ from each other

Cabbage and lettuce are green vegetables, but this is the extent of the similarities between them. They have completely different characteristics. Cabbage belongs to the family of cultivated vegetables known as Brassica Olveracea. It has a round head that is surrounded by green or purple leaves that must be cooked before they are eaten. Lettuce belongs to a different family of vegetables – Latusa sativa. It is a composite vegetable that has crisp leaves that are edible without being cooked. Lettuce leaves are mainly used in salads.

Lettuce grows in light, sandy soil and is grown for commercial reasons all over the world. It is also more nutritious than lettuce because it contains more energy – about 13kcal. Lettuce does not contain calories, but is a good source of carbohydrates, dietary fiber, protein, fats and Vitamin A. It also contains folic acid.
