Difference Between Cyst and Abscess

The cysts and abscesses are approximately comparable. Both are benign mass which are filled with liquid or puss. It can be hard to distinguish a cyst and an abscess and only a professional can distinguish. It is hard to diagnose a cyst or an abscess just by observation. The cyst and abscess can be differentiated with the help of biopsy.

A mass which is benign and filled with liquid or semi-liquid is called the cyst. The cysts are generally not a problem and it depends on where they grow. But cysts developed in some key areas can be harmful. In these areas, cysts may be irritation and can become sores.

The cyst is like a bladder pocket formed in the tissues. Cysts may be formed due to many things. The causes can be trauma, bacterial infection, the formation of scar tissue or cancer. While some of the cysts are not dangerous and do not need any treatment, there are other cysts that are very harmful and dangerous and even life threatening.

Comparable to cysts, an abscess is more tender and filled with pus. The abscess can be large or small and they come with a lot of pain, especially if seen in the vital organs. The abscess is formed when the foreign organisms demolish the tissue. An abscess is an infection caused by certain bacteria and the immune system trying to fight against bacteria. An abscess pimple is one example.

A cyst can be dormant for a very long time without creating any problems but when the cyst becomes infected, it could cause the abscess.
