Difference Between Embedded and External Memory Devices
Embedded memory is a memory that is integrated into the chip and it is only a memory is not. Embedded memory supports the core logic to perform its functions eliminating the provision of inter-fragment. The external memory devices are referred to the memory device residing outside the core logic. Currently, fixed SRAM (the Static Random Access Memory) and ROM (Read Only Memory) are widely used. On the other hand, the external memory devices are the stand alone memory devices such as hard drives and RAM that are not included in the chip.
Embedded memory device
The memory is a set are not only the memory that is integrated into the chip. The memory set is an essential component in VLSI (Very High Scale Integration), since these devices can provide high speed and large capacity. The development of artificial memory set has become easier due to the large die size that integrates memory with logic on the same chip and improved process technology. Fixed SRAM are widely used as the primary cache or level a cache (L1) on the chip. Currently, there are lot of interest to develop the fixed DRAM (random access memory Dynamic) because of the increasing performance gap between microprocessors and DRAMs. Because of the complexity of DRAM technology deals, they are the less used – the tricks of memory set used. The ROM set is also widely used. Another option for fixed non-volatile memory is the memory of brilliance set. In addition to EPROM and EEPROM set the brightness set memory can also be used in those places.
External memory device
The external memory devices refer to memory devices that are not included in the chip. These include devices such as hard drives, CD / DVD read-only memory; RAM and ROM are not included in the chip. Traditionally, the external memory alluded to the devices which were used as permanent storage of large amounts of data such as magnetic disks, CD-ROM, etc… The external memory device most widely used is the hard disk, which characteristically ability to hold a large amount of data.
What is the difference between the Embedded & External Memory devices?
The memory devices are attached storage devices that are built on the chip with the core logic, while the external memory devices are memory devices that reside outside the chip. Fixed SRAM and ROM are widely used or are only external SRAM and ROM. The use of artificial memory set reduced the number of chips and reduced space requirements used by the device. In addition, when the memory is attached to the chip provides the fastest response time and reduced consumption as the use of an external memory device. On the other hand, the set of memory devices require developing a complex design and manufacturing process as external storage devices. Also, the fact of integrating different types of memory on the same piece would make the manufacturing process more complex. Additionally, a portion of memory (invented RAM, ROM, etc) Might consume a large portion of the chip making the design more demanding for designers.
