Difference Between Metro And Subway

If you are a city dweller which has a large population, the chances are that the city has a mass transit system or Rapid Transit system, known by different names in different parts of the world, such as metro, subway, metro or metropolitan railway system. These are the names of all electric-powered railroads that were once only available in selected countries. Therefore, we have pipes in London, the subway in New York, Metro in New Delhi, and so on in different cities in the world. But are these all underground rail system the same or is there a difference between the Metro and Subway? Let’s take a closer look.

The word subway is generally used for underground, but it is also used to refer to the underground complexes used by pedestrians. In New York, the locals seem to be confused between the Metro and Subway. But London’s subway system is always referred to the tube. Sometimes London’s subway system is also called Rapid Transit as well.

If we go with the British English word meanings then a subway is underground path. Although both the New York subway and the tube in London has the same purpose which is connecting the cities and its suburbs, their names are different. Subway is a general term that refers to an underground train.

Metro officially came first in Paris railways where it was opened for the first time.

What is the difference?
• Metro, Tube, underground, subway, etc. are all names for underground lines in various places around the world.
• Therefore, we have New York City subway while in Paris its Metro.
• Metro as a word was first used by the French in the Paris’s Metro, which was adopted by other systems, such as Moscow and New Delhi.
