Difference Between Sound and Voice

Sound and voice are two words which have different meanings and usage though they appear to be similar. Let us find out the differences between them and try to use them appropriately instead of using them interchangeably.

Sound would refer to anything that can be heard by ears. This word is often used with adjectives instead of adverbs. For example,

  • It sounds amazing!
  • You sound sad.

Sound is used in many expressions like ‘sounds like’ which means it ‘appears to be’ or ‘seems like’.

For example:

  • It sounds like a great idea.

Voice is associated with human speech. ‘Voice’ is used as verb in many cases. For example, you must voice it out. It is also used as alternate word for speak. For example, he voiced his ideas. Voice is often used with ‘out’.
