The difference between a Swedish Massage and a Deep Tissue Massage

Massage, even the mere echo of this word sounds soothing and relaxing. Swedish and Deep Tissue massage are two of the latest fad in the massage world. These are as pampering as a lover’s hands swirling between his lady’s tangles of hair. No wonder that women rush to spas and massage parlors for the pure pampering and enchanting massages.  Though, both of these massages provide comfort and relaxation, yet serve different purposes and have different calming effects on the body.

Conceived by a Swedish physiologist in 1800, Swedish massage is performed to provide relaxation to the stressed muscles and fatigued body. The long circular strokes of the massage stimulate the blood circulation and gear up the nervous system. It’s slow and pressure movements cause overactive muscles to slow down and thus, in result creating a calming effect all over body.

Whereas deep tissue massage is aimed to relieve the knotted and tired muscles of neck, thighs, legs and arms by more pressured movements of hand. In this hectic world, the tissues of neck and arms work overtime, and deep tissue massage is a weekend for them to relax. The massage is meant for the tissues of the body parts, which are more stressed and need more time and forceful movement for relaxation.  Mind you, sometimes, the deep tissue massage can be painful. Though, anyone can go for the deep tissue massage yet people who sit or stand for the entire day, working at a sales computer or sitting on computer, should go for deep tissue massage once- a- month. Swedish massage is good for sensitive skin which cannot handle deep movements of deep tissue massage.

So, next time when you visit a parlor, you know which massage you shall ask for. Massages could work wonder on body, given you know the functions and specific purpose of them.
