Difference between Ubuntu and Kubuntu
An open source operating system, Linux is a popular choice of many developers and webmasters. One of the most user-friendly Linux distributions from Canonical Ltd is known as Ubuntu which means “humanity to others”. One of the co-project or subsidiary of Ubuntu is Kubuntu. Developed by experts and community, and widely used by businesses, education portals and for personal users, it is completely free. Every six months see an update of Ubuntu which makes them completely compatible to other third party software and applications. It is very user-friendly and easy to install. It can be redistributed as its license free and an open source project. On the scale of 1 to 10, it stands at number 3 among the most popular OS with millions of users across the world. With more than 50 percent of the market share, it’s robust and efficient.
It can easily be downloaded on several machines. May be this is one of the reasons that it is the most preferred system in organizations. Support is also available for the OS. Kubuntu is the sub-project of Ubuntu and designed to target a specific market. It is meant to use in elementary school environments for learning and blending fun with learning methodologies. Even children at home can use this. New Kubuntu upgrades ensure its compatibility almost all hardware components.
Despite being associated to each other in one way or other, there are some significant differences between these two such as the minimum system requirement to install Ubuntu is ARM, Intel x86, AMD 64 as motherboard architectures whereas 8 GB hard disk, 64MB RAM and a video card supporting 640×480 resolution for Kubuntu.
Ubuntu runs on user interface of Gnome desktop environment whereas Kubuntu runs on K desktop environment or KDE for its point to click options. The applications used by Ubuntu are Rhythmbox, Gedit, Evolution and Sound Juicer whereas Kubuntu has applications like AmaroK, K3B and Kopete.
